PORTLAND — Former New York City Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe will speak about city parks and open spaces beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at the First Parish Church, 425 Congress St.

Benepe is now a senior vice president at the Trust for Public Land. His presentation will be followed by a panel discussion on the history, future and potential of city parks that will also include Michael Mertaugh, of the Friends of Evergreen Cemetery, and Tobin Scipione, of Friends of Canco Woods.

Admission is free and the church parish hall will be open at 5 p.m. According to a press release, the lecture and discussion are not intended to promote a position on the June 10 referendum regarding stewardship of city land bank properties.
