TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade softball team slipped past Tripp on Thursday, 10-9.
The Eagles improved to 5- 3.
Tied 8-8 after five innings, Tripp claimed a 9-8 lead in the sixth and held onto the edge until the bottom of the seventh.
Mt. Ararat’s Zoe Stilphen walked, stole second and moved to third on a groundball. With two outs, Chloe Beattie hustled for a runscoring infield single to tie the game. Beattie stole second and third, and after a walk to Kate Graeff, Morgan Johnson ripped a walk-off RBI single to win it for the Eagles.
The Eagles had 10 hits. Isabella Benner had a double, a single and scored two runs, Kayleigh Temple tripled and scored one run, Stilphen picked up two singles and three runs scored, Scannevin doubled and scored two runs, Beattie two singles and Johnson had two singles.
Johnson pitched, with Temple and Graeff sharing the catching duties. Temple also made a stellar catch in center field. Benner continued her strong play at both first base, shortstop and third base. Beattie’s diving catch of a line drive and throw to first completed a double play, while Scannevin and Shelby Moore made several fine plays.
