SOUTH PORTLAND — School budgets and uncontested primaries are on ballots in Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough and South Portland on Election Day, Tuesday, June 10.
Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
The only contested primary on the ballot in the municipalities is for Democratic candidates for Cumberland County Sheriff, with incumbent Sheriff Kevin Joyce against Cumberland Town Councilor and former Maine State Police Sgt. Michael Edes.
Voters not enrolled in a political party cannot participate in the primary election; those registered as a Republican, Democrat or Green Party member can choose from candidates in their respective party.
All voters can weigh in on the school budget referendums.
South Portland
A South Portland Democratic candidate for State Representative of District 33 (formerly District 124), Timothy Smith, withdrew in early May, leaving the primary uncontested for the other Democratic candidate, former City Councilor Rosemarie DeAngelis.
Because Smith withdrew less than 60 days before the election, his name will still appear on the Democratic primary ballot, but city officials said votes for him will not count.
In South Portland, new voting stations reflect redistricting. Here’s where to vote:
District 1: Boys and Girls Club, 169 Broadway.
District 2: American Legion Stewart P. Morrill Post #35, 413 Broadway.
District 3, District 4: South Portland Community Center, 21 Nelson Road.
District 5: Redbank Community Center, Macarthur Circle West.
Scarborough
Primary elections and voting on the second validation vote on the proposed fiscal year 2015 school budget will be held at the Scarborough High School gymnasium.
Voters narrowly rejected the first school budget in a referendum on May 13.
If voters do not approve the second proposed school budget, the Town Council must meet within 10 days to approve a third budget for voter validation. Last year, the school budget passed after three votes.
Cape Elizabeth
Voters can cast their ballots at the Cape Elizabeth High School gymnasium for primaries and validation of the $23.2 million school budget approved by the Town Council in early May.
