Contrary to the assertion of Jon Roderick (“Letter to the editor: It’s time to muzzle MaineToday’s attack dog, Nemitz,” May 28), columnist Bill Nemitz does Portland and Maine a great service every time he articulates a progressive point of view on the public life of the city and state.

Nemitz is a voice for the majority of Mainers who find the incompetent and ill-mannered LePage administration almost too much to bear. The newspaper publishes other local and national columnists with more conservative views. It is always disappointing when letter writers such as Mr. Roderick seem unable to appreciate freedom of expression and would silence opinions with which they disagree.

Portland is a progressive city, and Bill Nemitz is its voice.
