Thursday was one of those unforgettable days for about 275 new graduates and their families, as Portland’s two remaining high schools – Deering High School and Casco Bay High School – handed out diplomas amid pomp, circumstance and celebrations.

Deering held its commencement Thursday morning at the Cumberland County Civic Center, recognizing 215 graduates dressed in purple and white gowns – the school colors.

Casco Bay held its commencement Thursday evening at Merrill Auditorium, giving diplomas to 60 grads dressed in black caps and gowns.

While all three of Portland’s public high schools have now bid a formal farewell to the Class of 2014, high school graduation season continues with scores of ceremonies due to be held this weekend and next across the state.
