A train hit a car parked too close to the Woodfords Corner railroad crossing Saturday morning, backing up traffic but causing no injuries or major damage.

Portland Police Lt. Gary Hutcheson said the collision was reported about 10:45 a.m. on Woodford Street. He said Sarah Bragdon of Portland parked her SUV too close to the tracks and the rear of the vehicle was hit when the next train came through.

“Trains are a lot wider than the tracks they run on,” Hutcheson said.

Hutcheson said he didn’t have an estimate for the damage to the rear end of Bragdon’s SUV. Railroad officials said damage to the train was slight, according to Hutcheson.

Police don’t plan to issue any tickets, he said, but the Boston-Maine Railroad Police, who have the authority to issue citations, are investigating.
