Farmington police handled two reports of unwanted visitors over the weekend, including one in which a man who allegedly defied orders to stay away from a single mother and her children went on to their property in his underwear in mid-afternoon Sunday.

Police said a High Street man was arrested after police said he went onto his neighbor’s yard and was spotted by her young children.

David P. Mills, 68, of Farmington, was arrested on the charge of criminal trespass at 2:36 p.m. Sunday, according to Farmington Police secretary Rachel Heseltine.

Police said that in September, Mills had been given two warnings not to go to the property next door. Heseltine said the residence is the home of a single mother who had previously complained that Mills kept coming over and that she did not want him around her or her children.

Heseltine said that Mills was reported to have gone over to the house again Sunday and was seen by two children who were outside playing.

“He said he went over to ask to use the phone,” said Heseltine. She said Mills told police that he had been locked out of his house and needed to call someone to get back in.

The other report of an unwanted person started Saturday night when a New Vineyard Road resident told police that she was being harassed by a man police said she identified as Travis Martin, who police said is wanted on three warrants.

Martin, 30, whose last known address was in Wilton, was wanted for failing to appear on a criminal mischief charge, violating a protective order and failing to appear on theft and burglary charges.

The caller, who police said is familiar with Martin, told authorities that Martin was harassing her late Saturday and then returned Sunday morning. Both times, police went out to search the area and brought dogs to track in the woods. Heseltine said police believed he ran off into the woods.

Heseltine said that if he were arrested, he would be charged only in connection with the warrants.
