SANFORD — Doris Muriel Cookson, 86, of Sanford, died on Saturday, June 7 at Southern Maine Health Care in Sanford.

Doris was born on April 7, 1928, to the late Leo and Florence (Martin) Roberge, in Sanford, where she grew up and attended local schools.

She was blessed with a great circle of friends who will sadly miss her. Above all, she cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren for whom she would do anything that was asked of her. Her love for them kept her going longer than most would have expected.

Doris was preceded in death by: her husband, Frank R. Cookson; and a sister, Yvonne Roberge.

Surviving are: two children, Donna M. Perkins and her husband Keith A. Perkins and Linda C. Piet and her husband Marcel J. Piet; five grandchildren, Taryn M. Southard and her husband Matthew K. Southard, Melanie V. Perkins, Bryant R. A. Perkins, Aaron G. Piet and Elise M. Piet; and two great-grandchildren, Cassian K. J. Southard and Isla Doris Southard.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 13th at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church, located on North Avenue in Sanford. Interment will follow at St. Ignatius Cemetery in Sanford.
