AUGUSTA — A 41-year-old Maine man will spend 18 months in prison for state tax crimes stemming from his failure to pay taxes on $1 million in sales of vacuum cleaners.
Attorney General Janet T. Mills announced the sentencing of Nathanial Dupuis of Gray on Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court. She said Dupuis will serve a four-year sentence with all but 18 months suspended, serve two years of probation, and pay $86,476 in restitution.
Dupuis pleaded guilty on Aug. 8, 2013, to multiple counts of theft by misapplication, intentional sales tax evasion, and failure to truthfully collect, account and pay over sales tax. The charges stemmed from his work as a vacuum distributor and salesman from 2006 to 2008.
