WATERBORO — Rayne Whitten scored four goals and dished out two assists as top-ranked Massabesic beat eighth-seeded Westbrook 12-0 in a Western Class A girls lacrosse quarterfinal on Tuesday.

Jackie Guillemette also scored twice for the Mustangs (12-1), while Megan Hill saves five Blue Blazes (7-6) shots.

Massabesic will host the winner of today’s quarterfinal between No. 4 Marshwood and No. 5 Gorham in a semifinal on Saturday.

BONNY EAGLE 7, KENNEBUNK 0

STANDISH — Bonny Eagle pitcher Allison Pike held Kennebunk to just two hits ”“ by Meg Dube and Ally King ”“ as the fifth-seeded Scots beat the 12th-seeded Rams 7-0 in a Western Class A softball quarterfinal on Tuesday.

The Scots (12-5) scored three runs in the first-inning of Rams (6-11) starter Dube, adding one more in the third, two in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Baseball

WELLS 8, FREEPORT 3

WELLS — A four-run fifth inning broke open a tie game and led host Wells to an 8-3 victory over Freeport in a Western Class B baseball prelim on Tuesday.

A run in the fourth tied the game for the eighth-seeded Warriors, who then took their first lead the next inning with the four-run rally.

Bennie McMinis earned the win on the mound, while Peter LeMagna took the loss for the ninth-seeded Falcons.

SCARBOROUGH 5, SANFORD 0

SCARBOROUGH — Red Storm starting pitcher Matt Hartl gave up just four hits over five innings, and his offense gave him a five-run cushion by the third inning as No. 5 Scarborough shut out No. 12 Sanford 5-0 in a Western Class A baseball prelim on Tuesday.

The Red Storm took the lead with a four-run bottom of the first, a lead that stuck and gave Hartl plenty of room for error ”“ not that he needed it.

Jimmy Parks had a pair of hits for the Spartans. Brandon Wambolt took the loss on the mound for Sanford.

WINTHROP 9, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 0

WINTHROP — Ben Allen threw a six-hit shutout to lead No. 6 Winthrop over No. 11 Old Orchard Beach 9-0 in a Western Class C baseball prelim on Tuesday.

Allen struck out five and didn’t issue a walk in the win.

Kendel Tatsak pitched six innings for the Seagulls, but was done in by four errors from his defense.

The Ramblers scored three runs apiece in the second and third innings and never looked back, as they advance to the quarterfinals.

Hunter Bouthot and Nate Doody each had two of the Seagulls’ six hits in the loss.
