NEWRY (AP) — More than 2,000 cyclists are setting out on a three-day ride across Maine to raise money.

The 30th annual fundraiser for the American Lung Association kicks off Friday at Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry.

The 180-mile ride will finish on Sunday at Steamboat Landing Park in Belfast. Cyclists will stop at the University of Maine Farmington on Friday and at Colby College in Waterville on Saturday.

The association has raised $22 million through the event over the last 29 years. It hopes to raise $2 million this year.

A cyclist was killed during the ride last year after he was struck by a tractor trailer a couple of miles from the starting point.
