Kate Hall of Lake Region High broke the New England high school record and finished third in the 100-meter dash Saturday at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Hall, a junior, posted a New England-best time of 11.58 seconds in the prelims. In the finals, she ran 11.45 to finish behind only Candace Hill of Georgia and Brenessa Thompson of New York, who were both clocked in 11.34. Hall’s time in the finals doesn’t count for record purposes because of a tailwind.

On Friday, Edward Little sophomore Spencer Dunn won the mile racewalk in 7 minutes, 10.44 seconds, beating a field of nine that included seven from Maine. Gorham junior Drew York finished second in 7:21.53, Thornton Academy junior Ian Marshall was fourth in 7:58.84, and Gorham sophomore Sean Pratt placed sixth in 8:02.57.

NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

Lewiston junior Isaiah Harris set an all-time Maine best for 800 meters while winning the event at Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

Harris’ time of 1:51.47 was more than a second faster than the rest of the field. He broke the Maine record of 1:52.80 set by Mark McCauley of Greely in 2010.
