I think it’s important for people to read and (respectfully) listen to opposing views, but please give some thought to dropping George Will’s commentary from your paper.

Mr. Will’s statement in his June 9 column that a woman’s having been sexually assaulted on campus is a “coveted status that confers privilege” is disgusting and inflammatory (“Colleges and universities get the government they deserve”).

I don’t think the Portland Press Herald should endorse Mr. Will’s commentary, especially when it’s so inflammatory, and should no longer print his column. George Will’s comments make it abundantly clear that he is out of touch with the realities of campus life – and, worse, the remarks exacerbate the already sensitive issue of rape.
