BRUNSWICK — Richard Albert Coffin, 91, of Brunswick died June 10 at Hill House, of Bath, where he had resided for four years.

Born in Brunswick, he was one of six sons of Marie and Benjamin Coffin. He was a graduate of Brunswick High School, Class of 1941. He studied at the New England School of Art prior to joining the Army in 1943 as a member of the Corps of Amphibious Engineers, stationed in Japan and Australia.

Coffin was a lobsterman and a craftsman, building his home and several boats; and an artist in many areas, including wood-carving, pen and ink and oil painting.

He was predeceased by his ex-wife and helpmate, Joan; son, Vaughn; and brothers, Roland, Thomas, James and Benjamin.

He is survived by his son, Richard Wayne Coffin, and partner, Allyson Ammons; daughter, Linda Coffin, and husband, Paul Miles-Matthias; grandson, Zachary Coffin Matthias; brother, Clarence; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wants to thank the dedicated and loving service of all the staff at Hill House in caring for him over these years.

A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at the discretion of the family.
