SOUTH BERWICK — Staples Crossing showed plenty of offense Saturday in sweeping an American Legion doubleheader from Biddeford-Saco Savings, winning 17-3 in a five-inning opener and 7-1 in the second game at Marshwood High.

In the opener, winning pitcher Zack Quintal had three of the 14 hits for Staples Crossing (3-0), including a double. Brady Crepeau had a double and single for Biddeford-Saco (2-3).

In the second game, Noah McDaniel had a triple and single with a pair of RBI for Staples Crossing. Luke Stankovich combined with Dion Stewart to allow one run on five hits.

BONANZA, FAYETTE-STAPLES SPLIT: Ed Machetti pitched a four-hitter as Bonanza won the second game 9-6 at Sanford.

Tyler Flahan and Matt Webber each had three hits, including a pair of doubles, for Bonanza. Devan Gouin and Tyler Burgess each had a pair of RBI.

Fayette-Staples won the opener 3-1 on Matt Rutherford’s three-hitter. Ben Lambrat had a pair of RBI for Fayette-Staples.

STANDISH POST 128, FALMOUTH SPLIT: Addison Foltmer struck out 10 in a three-hitter and Reese Armitage had a pair of hits to lead Falmouth (1-2) to a 6-0 win over Standish Post 128 (1-2) in the opening game at Falmouth.

In the second game, C.J. McMahon had three hits and drove in two runs to pace a 17-hit offense for Standish in a 10-6 victory.

Standish took a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Falmouth responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning, including a grand slam by Connor MacDowell.

Standish regained the lead with six runs in the sixth.

MORRILL POST, SACO-BIDDEFORD SAVINGS SPLIT: Nick Whitten struck out five in a two-hitter to lift Morrill Post (2-1) to a 4-0 win over Saco-Biddeford Savings (2-1) in the opener at South Portland.

Whitten also went 2 for 3 with two RBI, and Brad Sowerby added two hits and one RBI for Morrill Post.

In the second game, Bailey Sawyer hit a two-run single during a four-run second inning and Saco-Biddeford Savings held on for a 5-1 win.

Jack McCullough had three hits and drove in one run for Saco-Biddeford Savings. Bailey Ryan threw a five-hitter with four strikeouts.

ANDREWS POST, LIBBY-MITCHELL SPLIT: Austin Pemberton had two hits with two RBI and a pair of runs as Libby Mitchell (1-1) took the opener 5-3 against Andrews Post (1-1) at Scarborough.

Sam Warren pitched the first six innings to pick up the win, striking out six and walking one.

Andrews Post took the second game 15-5 in six innings. Andrews collected 12 hits, four by Travis Godbout and three by Joe Apon. Godbout picked up the victory, striking out six and walking five.

BRUNO’S SWEEPS FAYETTE-STAPLES: Ben Griffin struck out seven and walked one in a three-hitter, and Zach Fortin went 3 for 3 with two RBI as Bruno’s (4-1) cruised to a 10-0, five-inning victory against Fayette-Staples (0-6) in the opener at Portland.

Bruno’s won the second game 6-3 behind two hits and three RBI from Dominic Tocci. Bruno’s took the lead on a two-run homer by Charles Barnard in the fifth inning that broke a 2-2 tie.

SOUTH PORTLAND SWEEPS BANGOR: Griffin Kelley pitched a complete game as South Portland won the opener 8-7 at Orono. South Portland went eight innings to win the second game, 5-2.

In the opener, South Portland trailed 7-3 before scoring four runs in the seventh, including an RBI single by Zach Johnson.

In the second game, Bangor scored two runs in the second before South Portland tied it in the seventh. Bailey Welsh sparked a three-run eighth with an RBI single that drove home Ben Conti.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 6, LIBBY-MITCHELL 5: Evan Harmer hit a two-out RBI single in the 11th inning as Gray-New Gloucester won at Gray.

Libby-Mitchell took the lead with a four-run 10th before Gray-New Gloucester answered in the bottom of the inning. Jake Wiseman relieved in the 10th and was the winning pitcher.

CHASE CUSTOM HOMES, A.T. HUTCHINS SPLIT: Riley Bartell had two hits, drove in three runs and pitched a complete game to lead A.T. Hutchins (1-2) to a 10-9 win over Chase Custom Homes (2-2) in the opener at Portland.

Chase Custom Homes won the second game 9-1 behind a seven-hitter from Jason Koumalainen. Michael Walls had a pair of hits, including a double, for Chase Custom Homes.

WELLS SWEEPS BONNY EAGLE: Matt Marrero hit a two-run single during a four-run fifth inning and Cody Cousins struck out four in a four-hitter as Wells (4-0) pulled away for an 8-1 win over Bonny Eagle (3-2) in the second game at Standish.

Wells scored four runs in the first inning, including an RBI single from Matt Trainor, and Liam Bell added an RBI single in the fifth.

In the opener, Chandler Bridge had two hits and drove in three runs, and Shawn Ramsey hit a two-run double as Wells held on for an 8-5 win.

Lukkas Pierce had two hits, including a triple, for Bonny Eagle.
