KITTERY — St. Raphael Church in Kittery is set to celebrate its 80th anniversary.

The Catholic church will hold a special 1 p.m. Mass and reception on Sunday. Bishop Joseph E. McCarthy dedicated the church in June 1934. It sits on the foundation of a former stable and was built with hand-cut hard pine from Maine.

The diocese says in 1968 the church was one of the first in the Diocese of Portland to be renovated in accordance with the Second Vatican Council. Fr. Raymond Auger, priest at the church from 1959 to 1965 and parish administrator for 1965 to 1968, is scheduled to attend Sunday’s events.

The church is located at 6 Whipple Road in Kittery.
