AUBURN – A Sabattus woman who didn’t stop her husband from sexually abusing a preteen girl has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Christal Gagnier was sentenced Wednesday in Androscoggin County Superior Court two months after a jury found her guilty of tampering with a witness in a sex abuse case and aggravated furnishing of a scheduled drug.

Prosecutors say Gagnier coached the now 14-year-old girl not to report the abuse and gave her drugs to treat a sexually transmitted disease the victim contracted from Gagnier’s husband.

The Sun Journal reports that Gagnier was a victim of abuse as a child and a therapist testified that because of that, Gagnier did not learn sexual boundaries. She apologized to the girl in court.

Gagnier’s husband was earlier sentenced to 15 years in prison.
