Two people suffered serious injuries Sunday night when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a deer.

Mark Lacourse, 63, of Waterboro was driving a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Main Street and Deborah Scott, 43, of Plymouth, N.H, was riding on the back, according to a press release from the York County Sheriff’s Office.

At 8:44 p.m. in Waterboro, near the Alfred-Waterboro Veterinary Hospital, a deer ran out from the woods into the path of the motorcycle. The collision killed the deer and sent Lacourse and Scott flying off the motorcycle, the release said.

The two sustained serious injuries and were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

A spokesman for the York County Sheriff’s Office said Scott was not wearing a helmet. He did not know about Lacourse.
