ROCKLAND — The Maine Windjammer Association is celebrating the Fourth of July with its Great Schooner Race.
The race is hailed as one of the nation’s largest gatherings of traditional schooners and it allows guests who’re vacationing aboard the vessels to be part of the race.
This year, more than 20 vessels were taking places in the event in Penobscot Bay.
The Maine Windjammer Association says its members comprise the largest fleet of traditional sailing schooners in North America. Several of them are National Historic Landmarks.
