When a Scarborough donut shop checked its security video Thursday morning to see how its back wall got damaged, workers learned that it was rammed by a car in an apparent aborted burglary attempt.

Workers at 91 County Road, the plaza housing Dunkin’ Donuts and Subway, arrived Thursday morning they found studs at the back of the donut shop pushed in to the building, and damaged vinyl siding on the outside.

When police viewed the video from the security system, they saw images of a 1997 tan Toyota Camry shining its lights on the rear door of the building, then accelerating and hitting the building just to the side of the door, police said.

The car did not break through and after the ramming attempt, drove away, police said.

Damage was estimated at about $2,000.

The car has a black bumper, a dance sticker on the left side of the rear window and Maine license plate 7491JI, Scarborough police said on its Facebook page.

Police asked that anyone with information call police at 883-6361 or the anonymous crime tip hotline at 730-4386.
