Brooking art students to exhibit work

Painting students of Mary Brooking will display their work in an exhibit opening on Saturday, July 19, in her studio at 863 Main St. (rear entrance) in Westbrook.

The opening will feature wine and hors d’oeuvres. The paintings will be for sale, as will Brooking’s own work.

Vietnam veteran’s artwork on display

A Westbrook native, David Thomas, is among several veterans whose artwork is on display this month at Maine College of Art, 522 Congress St. His work will be displayed through Friday, July 18.

The exhibition is open Monday to Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Thomas, a graduate of the art school, grew up in Prides Corner. He left Maine in 1968 to serve with the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

“After three years in the U.S. Army, I moved to Boston to complete graduate school and have lived and taught in the Boston area ever since,” Thomas said in an email.

Seniors’ travels

Westbrook Senior Citizens are planning two trips with space available. Non-members are welcome to participate.

On Thursday, Aug. 28, the group will go to Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire for a cruise, lunch, and a visit to Castle in the Clouds.

The seniors are also planning a trip to New Orleans from Jan. 23 to Feb. 1. The trip features a tour of New Orleans and a Caribbean cruise.

‘Stolen Mojo’ in park concert

The free concert series on Wednesdays continues from 6-8 p.m. on July 16 with “Stolen Mojo.”

Proceeds of a family barbecue from 5-7 p.m. benefits American Legion Post 62.
