Topsham police are trying to find the person they believe crashed their car over an embankment on River Road Sunday before fleeing the scene.

Topsham Police Sgt. Robert Ramsay said police responded to the crash Sunday at 8:52 p.m. A silver Subaru sedan had struck a traffic sign and driven down an embankment in the area of 685 River Road near the Lewiston Road intersection,

Ramsay said. Witnesses say they saw the driver walk away from the scene.

Cpl. Ian Alexander and police dog Brix of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department tried to track the driver but weren’t able to find him.

Ramsay said witnesses saw the driver doing donuts at the River Road and Lewiston Road intersection prior to the crash.
