BAR HARBOR — Matthew Caras was recently elected to serve as a director of both Bar Harbor Bank & Trust and its parent company, Bar Harbor Bankshares, succeeding Robert Philips who retired after 21 years of service.

Caras, 57, of Arrowsic, is an owner and managing director of Leaders LLC, providing professional merger, acquisition, and advisory services primarily to privately owned companies. He is also a mediator and neutral negotiation facilitator.

Prior to founding Leaders LLC, Caras was a partner and department chairman at the law firm of Verrill Dana LLP, located in Portland.

Caras received his bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College, his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law and completed additional executive programs at the MIT Sloan School of Management, Harvard Law School and Northwestern University.

A member of the Maine Bar, Caras serves on the Board of Gov- ernors and chairs the Ethics and Practice Quality Committee of the Maine Association of Mediators. He is also a member of the town of Arrowsic planning board and class agent at Bowdoin College, among other memberships.
