Mayor visits 104-year-old Westbrook resident

Over the weekend, Westbrook Mayor Colleen Hilton presented a key to the city to Westbrook’s Stasia Stearns, who turned 104 on July 14.

Stearns lives alone with help from her daughter, granddaughter and other extended family, and has two children, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

She was a longtime elementary school teacher at Bridge Street School and Congin Elementary. Hilton said that while the city doesn’t have records of the oldest living resident, she believes Stearns to be the oldest.

City Clerk Lynda Adams said Monday, “Unfortunately it is almost impossible to know who our oldest resident is, since there is no tracking system.” She is asking residents to contact her at 591-8131 if they know a Westbrook resident who is 104 or older.
