Army Spec. Kristian T. Foster  graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. Foster is the son of Barbara and Phil Foster of Gray and is a graduate of Gray New-Gloucester High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 2013 from the University of Southern Maine.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class John H. Waller graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Waller is the brother of James Bentley of South Portland, and is a 2013 graduate of Putnam City High School, Warr Acres, Okla.

VA Benefits workshop will be held at 4 p.m. July 30 at Birchwoods at Canco Assisted Living, 86 Holiday Drive, Portland. The educational workshop is free and open to the public. The VA Aid and Attendance Pension benefit offers eligible veterans or their surviving spouses a significant monthly pension, ranging from $1,130 to $2,085 per month tax-free. To be eligible, veterans must have served 90 consecutive days or more with at least one day during a wartime period (World War II, Korea, etc.) and meet a few medical and financial eligibility criteria.
