PORTLAND — Louis Alphonso Atripaldi, 77, of Portland and Fort Meyers, Florida, died with his family at his side in Fort Meyers on July 12.

Atripaldi was born in Portland on Jan. 26, 1937, a son of Vincenzo and Mary Atripaldi. He lived most of his life in Portland. In 1958, he married a “blind date,” Fran (“Lulu”), and the couple shared 55 years together.

Atripaldi worked on the railroads and as a pie maker. He also was employed by NYNEX, from which he retired in 1996. In 1999, he and his wife moved to Florida, where he pursued his longtime love of fishing. Despite the new waters, Pine Point in Scarborough remained his favorite fishing spot. Atripaldi also enjoyed travel, and with Fran frequently visited destinations throughout Europe and the United States, including Hawaii.

In 1965, the couple’s son Robert was born, and they later gained a daughter in-law, Andi, and three granddaughters, Gabby, Livie and Sam. They were the pride and joy of Atripaldi’s life.

He is survived by his wife, Fran; son, Robert and wife, Andrea; grandchildren, Gabriele, Olivia and Samantha; brother, John and wife, Carmen; sister, Eleanor Hannigan and husband, Louie; sister, Philomena Paterson and husband, Alexander; Gary “Skip” McDougall, whom he considered a brother, and his wife, Sue; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held July 20 at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, with a funeral there on July 21. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
