FREEPORT — David Jefferson Hartill, 90, a resident of East Street in Freeport and formerly of Brunswick, died July 9 at Freeport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, following a long illness.

Hartill was born July 5, 1924, in Maspeth, New York, a son of Jefferson M. and Hetsel A. (Wilson) Hartill. He attended schools in Florida and in Brunswick, and later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was employed for over 25 years as a welder at Bath Iron Works in Bath.

Hartill enjoyed boating and fishing, both in Maine as well as on trips to Florida.

He was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn Elaine (Allen) Hartill; a son, David Hartill Jr.; three sisters, Ruth Marks, Jessie Leitmer and Mary Lipovsky; and two brothers, Robert Hartill and Donald Hartill.

Survivors include his son, Clayton and his wife, Dawn, of Woolwich, and a sister, Ruth Marks of Largo, Florida.

Services were planned to be private, with interment at Bayview Cemetery in Bowdoinham. The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the charity of one’s choice in memory of David Jefferson Hartill.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick.
