FRYEBURG — The town of Fryeburg’s police force is now equipped with Tasers, an achievement that was supported by an elected official, who agreed to be hit with a 50,000-volt charge of electricity.

Acting Chief of Police Joshua Potvin said all of his officers have been certified to carry a Taser while on duty. Two electronic control devices were put into use Monday.

During the certification process, officers experienced what it would be like to be stunned by one of the devices. They were joined by Fryeburg Selectman Paul Naughton. “I am very impressed with Selectman Naughton’s dedication to our Taser program. Not many people would volunteer to be hit with 50,000 volts,” Potvin said.

Potvin said that Fiddlehead Outdoors LLC, which operates Fiddlehead Campground in Fryeburg, provided funds to purchase the Tasers.
