Drew Abramson threw a three-hitter as South Portland completed a sweep of A.T. Hutchins with a 6-0 win in a best-of-three Junior Legion playoff series Sunday morning in Portland.
Griffin Kelley had two hits, including a double, to pace a 10-hit attack for South Portland (15-5), which advances to a four-team, double-elimination tournament.
BABE RUTH 13: Keller Nicolai, Jason Montano and Ben Sawyer had two hits apiece and Portland scored nine runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally for a 9-5 win over Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in the winners’ bracket of the New England Regional at Newtown, Connecticut.
Portland faces Westfield, Massachusetts, at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
NECBL: Drake Parker hit a two-run homer during a five-run sixth inning for the Sanford Mainers (21-14) as they pulled away for a 7-0 win over the Laconia Muskrats (17-19) in Laconia, New Hampshire.
Brett Adcock struck out eight while giving up three hits and one walk over six innings to earn the win.
FCBL: Mekae Hyde scored on an error in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide (15-28) to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Martha’s Vineyard Sharks (22-21).
Kelly Rooney had three hits and drove in a run for the Raging Tide. Brian O’Keefe gave up one run on six hits while striking out six over six innings.
TENNIS
ATLANTA OPEN: Top-seeded John Isner overpowered Dudi Sela to successfully defend his title, blowing serve after serve past the 5-foot-9 Israeli player in a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
BASKETBALL
WNBA: Ivory Latta scored 21 points and Kara Lawson added 14 as the Washington Mystics (13-13) moved into second place in the Eastern Conference with a 77-67 win over the visiting Atlanta Dream (15-9).
• Maya Moore had 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists for the Minnesota Lynx (20-6) in a 76-65 win over the Connecticut Sun (10-16) at Uncasville, Connecticut.
• Glory Johnson scored 14 of her 15 points in the second half and had 11 rebounds to lead the Tulsa Shock (9-17) to a 79-69 win over the visiting Chicago Sky (10-15).
