ROCKLAND — Court officials say a former Maine resident convicted of trying to kill his wife by pushing her off a cliff will be sentenced on Sept. 25.

A Maine jury convicted 71-year-old Charles Black of six felonies on July 21. The top charge of attempted murder carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison. Officials say the sentencing date is tentative.

Black is convicted of hitting his then-wife Lisa Zahn on the head with a rock before pushing her off 800-foot Maiden Cliff in April 2011. Authorities say the couple had been arguing about Black’s infidelity and that he had been spending some of Zahn’s inheritance money.

Both fell down the mountainside and were hospitalized. The cliff is located in Camden Hills State Park. Black later moved to Utah.
