After weeks of disruptions related to track repair and maintenance, the Downeaster train service is back on track.
The Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority announced Friday that work on the rail line is complete, and that the full Downeaster schedule of trains has resumed.
Four trains on the popular Boston to Portland line were canceled Wednesday and Thursday of this week. The repair work caused disruptions on the line throughout the month of July, which recorded more than 50 train cancellations, the most in the history of the 13-year-old passenger train service.
“We are pleased to be up and running a full schedule between Brunswick, Maine, and Boston, Massachusetts ,once again. We especially want to thank our riders for their patience and understanding while necessary improvements were made along our tracks,” said Patricia Quinn, the rail authority’s executive director, in a release. “The safety of our riders is of utmost importance and the tracks were in need of repairs after the long frigid winter.”
