An Oxford woman was struck by lightning Tuesday afternoon while sitting on her living room couch.

Oxford Fire Chief Scott Hunter said the woman “received a jolt” when lightning hit a tree near her home at 309 King St. and went inside the home.

The woman, whose name was unavailable Tuesday night, was transported to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway to be checked out but did not appear to have been seriously injured, Hunter said.

Another bolt of lightning struck a home at 639 King St., blowing a large hole in the side of the home. No one was injured, Hunter said. The thunderstorm rolled through Oxford around 4:30 p.m.
