MONHEGAN — Happy 400th anniversary Monhegan.

A parade and ceremony on the tiny island Wednesday will honor the anniversary of Captain John Smith’s visit to Monhegan Plantation in 1614. The parade is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. at Lobster Cove, followed by a ceremony at the schoolhouse.

Maine Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King are traveling to Monhegan to help celebrate.

Monhegan Island, about 10 miles from the coastal town of Port Clyde, has fewer than 100 residents year-round, but draws thousands of tourists to its shores, particularly in the summer months.
