MILWAUKEE — The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list for the third time this season prior to their game Friday with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Beckett, who is 6-6 with a 2.88 ERA in 20 starts for the Dodgers this season, has a left hip impingement. The move is retroactive to Aug. 4. He is expected to be out about two weeks. The 14-year veteran made three starts since being reinstated on July 22 from the same injury which occurred on July 8. His first time on the disabled list was March 22 when he had a right-thumb contusion.

YANKEES: First baseman Mark Teixeira missed a second straight game after getting spiked on the left hand Wednesday on a play at the plate.

MARINERS: Willie Bloomquist will miss the rest of 2014 after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee following a July 23 injury.

Bloomquist was hitting .278 in 47 games this season. He also had played six positions with center field, pitcher and catcher the only spots in the field Bloomquist did not play.

 Lou Piniella will become the first manager inducted into the team’s hall of fame this weekend.

GIANTS: First baseman Brandon Belt is back on the seven-day concussion list.

Belt, who missed 12 games with a concussion before being activated on Aug. 2, left the game Wednesday with headaches.

MARLINS: Left-hander Dan Jennings was released from a Pittsburgh hospital a day after he was hit in the head by a line drive.

He is on the seven-day concussion list.

CARDINALS: Right-handed reliever Jason Motte went on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back sprain.

CUBS-MARLINS TRADE: Chicago acquired righty Jacob Turner from Miami in exchange for minor league right-handers Jose Arias and Tyler Bremer.
