After the U.S. Department of Agriculture arranged to have a crop of geese that infiltrated the Oakland town beach euthanized, town officials have looked for a more humane way of keeping the geese and their droppings away from families seeking a relaxing summer afternoon. A “predatory decoy,” in the form of a plastic fox, was recently placed on the beach in the hope of scaring the geese away. Staff photo by Jesse Scardina
