AUGUSTA — Maine Gov. Paul LePage is giving $6,000 from his contingency fund to six Maine nonprofit organizations.

The Republican governor is helping organizations that are being supported by the “Art of Giving Gala,” which is being held in Portland on Thursday.

The gala is being hosted by Down East Magazine and six Maine artists who have chosen the nonprofits that will receive proceeds from the event.

The nonprofits that will receive $1,000 each from LePage’s contingency fund are: The Locker Project, Maine College of Art Scholarship Fund, Colby College Museum of Art, Bowdoin College Museum of Art, North Haven EMS and the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association
