A New Jersey man was hospitalized with critical injuries Saturday morning after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car on Route 1 in Wiscasset, police said.

The man, 21, of Frenchtown, New Jersey, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston before being transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland. The driver of the car, a 29-year-old Damariscotta man, was taken to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. The 29-year-old did not appear to have life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The New Jersey man was traveling south on Route 1 and crossed the centerline, striking the car. Police closed Route 1 near Birch Point Road for about two hours.

Names of the men have not yet been released.
