If voters care about women’s health in Maine, they should think carefully about this year’s election for governor.
Since 2010, more than 200 restrictions on abortion rights have been passed in state legislatures, usually disguised as bills to “keep women safe.” Politicians across the country believe they should make women’s medical decisions for them. Statistics show that if people want to reduce the number of abortions, they just need to make all forms of birth control more available. When women have access to quality health care, they make the best decisions for themselves.
Mainers are not safe from these attacks against women’s rights. In the last two years, Gov. Paul LePage has cut or prevented access to health care for women and he is against keeping abortion safe and legal. Maine needs a new governor who will support access to health care and a woman’s right to make her own decisions about pregnancy.
