WINDHAM — Steve S. Walker, 60, died at his Upland Road home on Aug. 14, 2014 after a brief and debilitating illness.

He was born Sept. 18, 1953 in Sanford, the son of Elwyn and Miriam (Sweet) Walker. Steve was the husband of Susan Walker.

Steve attended Sanford schools and was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, where he met his wife.

He was a civil engineer, serving as the assistant engineer for the Town of Sanford and spending several years as the public works director for the Town of Windham. Steve also worked as an engineering consultant for Pinkham & Greer, and most recently as a senior site inspector for G.P.I. He also worked part-time for L.L. Bean.

Steve enjoyed his work, skiing, hiking, canoeing and kayaking. He also enjoyed parenting his two sons and was active in scouting, including serving as scoutmaster for B.S.A. Troop 51 in Windham. Steve supervised the Windham Recreation youth skiing program at Shawnee Peak and was active on the oversight committee for the construction of Windham High School.

He was preceded in death by: his mother, Miriam; and eldest son, Sean.

He is survived by: his father, Elwyn; wife, Sue; his son and daughter-in-law, Seth and Teri-Ann; his brother, David Walker; his sister, Carol Mitchell; and several nephews and nieces.
