A Massachusetts man vacationing in Rangeley was arrested after police say he assaulted his girlfriend and damaged their summer rental during the assault.

Richard Ranucci, 30, of Lexington, Mass., was arrested early Saturday on charges of domestic violence assault and criminal mischief, said Rangeley Police Chief Dennis Leahy.

Leahy said Ranucci and his girlfriend had been at Moose Alley, a bar and bowling alley, on Friday. After midnight Sunday the woman returned to the bar and told the staff that she had been assaulted.

Leahy said police brought the woman to the police station to interview her and observed multiple injuries on her face, neck, legs and arms.

At the rental home in Rangeley, police reported Ranucci had damaged the property during the assault which led to the additional charge of criminal mischief.

Leahy said the damage included a broken chair, a broken dish and a hanging door that had been knocked off its track.
