NEW YORK — Seth Meyers, who celebrated his one-year anniversary this week, said designer Carolina Herrera was his wedding day fairy godmother.

At an event Wednesday honoring the Venezuelan designer, Meyers recalled how his then-fiance, Alexi Ashe, spent her wedding morning in the emergency room with food poisoning but came around after putting on her Herrera wedding gown.

“As she went to get ready, I will admit, as a groom, I was terrified. I was just terrified because she did not look good,” Meyers told a crowd of designers, fashion industry VIPs and celebrity guests that included Renee Zellweger and Lucy Liu.

“All of the sudden thanks to that dress everything was perfect. And I’m not saying that Mrs. Herrera saved our wedding, but I am saying that we’re naming our first child Carolina, girl or a boy,” said Meyers.

Herrera was honored by the Couture Council of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology at a Lincoln Center luncheon and acknowledged she wasn’t comfortable with all the attention.

“I’m a very private person and to be the center of attention is a bit difficult. And it’s different from the (runway) shows because the center of attention in the shows should be the collection, should be the clothing, not myself,” said Herrera.

Past recipients of the Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion include Oscar de la Renta, Valentino, Karl Lagerfeld and Michael Kors.

After the event, Herrera returned to preparations for her spring collection, showing Monday during New York Fashion Week.

“Can you imagine? I’ll be here for two hours and then I go back to my show, but it’s such a big honor that I don’t mind.”
