SACO — A posting on Facebook led police departments in Saco and Kennebunk to a man suspected of spray painting graffiti on several businesses in the York County towns over the past week.

Nikolas J. Coggins, 22, of 19 Lambert St. in Biddeford, was arrested Friday night and charged with six counts of criminal mischief. Coggins posted $310 cash bail and was released. He is scheduled to appear in Biddeford District Court on Oct. 15.

Kennebunk police Detective David Jamieson contacted Saco police after members of the public saw a posting on Saco’s Facebook page asking for the help in solving a rash of graffiti vandalism. Several people saw the post and offered information regarding a potential suspect.

The departments obtained a search warrant on Sept. 4 before entering Coggins’ residence, where they found binders filled with graffiti tags, a backpack containing several cans of spray paint, a digital camera and other related evidence.

Property owners told authorities that their buildings had been marked with graffiti tags such as “Buff City,” “TCB 14,” and “KNAZER.”

Saco police said Amato’s, Vic’s Appliance Center, Clark’s Insurance, Saco House of Pizza, and The Run of the Mill Brew Pub on Main Street as well as the former Pratt Abbott Cleaners in Pepperell Square were all vandalized on Aug. 30. The Eastern Trail pedestrian bridge and the railroad bridge on Front Street also were spray painted.

Kennebunk police allege that Coggins spray painted the Lafayette Center, Oceanside Rubbish, Old Vines Wine Bar and Kitchen Chicks Catering.
