CUMBERLAND — Robert F. Pikor, 72, of Cumberland Center, died Aug. 24.
Pikor was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on May 6, 1942, the son of Frank J. and Helen (Plis) Pikor.
He grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut, and after high school, Pikor went on to graduate from Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania. He later pursued a master’s degree at Trinity College in Hartford.
Pikor dedicated his life to the service of others. He was active in the Peace Corps and Project Vista, working with Native Americans in the western U.S.. He also served as an officer with the Hartford Police Department.
Later, he went on to teach high-school history for many years in several Connecticut towns. He retired to Maine in 2005.
Pikor was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Lorraine Mulligan, and husband Thomas Jr., of Bridgeport, Connecticut; their children, Thomas, Christoper and Gregory; sister, Valerie Phelps, of Houston; and her children, Kristin Murray, Kerri Phelps, Kyle Phelps and Kevin Phelps.
A funeral and burial for Pikor were held in Connecticut.
In honor of his love for animals, memorial donations may be made to the Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Maine.
