Portland recognized the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center with a wreath-laying ceremony at the city’s 9/11 Memorial at Fort Allen Park.

Fire Chief Jerome LaMoria and Police Chief Michael Sauschuck spoke briefly and the crowd participated in a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the time of the attacks in 2001.

The ceremony “is our way of honoring the citizens, firefighters, police officers, EMS responders and families who lost so much that day,” LaMoria said.

The fire department is also sponsoring “Roll Up Your Sleeve and Remember,” an all-day blood drive with the American Red Cross at its donor center at 524 Forest Ave. from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
