CAPE ELIZABETH – The town of Cape Elizabeth is seeking proposals for someone to remove and rebuild the stone steps along the Great Pond Trail.

According to the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust, the 0.7-mile walking trail leads to Great Pond – the largest body of fresh water in town. The trail also encompasses fields, woodlands a wetland marsh and an overlook of Great Pond.

The request for bids states that the town “is looking for a proposal that emphasizes a long-term solution to the steps that is in character with the high quality of the adjacent boardwalk. Any proposal should retain the steps in essentially the same location.”

Bids are due back to the Town Hall by 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, and will be reviewed by the town’s Conservation Commission at its meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m.
