Two people were killed in a head-on crash on Route 4 in Livermore early Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office said the names of the victims in the two-car crash were being withheld pending notification of the next of kin Saturday night.
Deputies said the investigation of the collision is ongoing and they don’t yet know what caused the cars to crash.
A third person in one of the cars was injured and taken to Central Maine Medical Center. That person’s condition was not known as of 8:30 p.m. Saturday, the sheriff’s office said.
Emergency workers called in a medevac helicopter to rush the crash victims to the hospital. Route 4, called Federal Road in Livermore, was closed between Boothby Road and Norton Road for much of the afternoon.
