ORONO — Nicole Sevey scored off a penalty corner and Cassidy Svetek deflected in a shot by Katie Bingle as the University of Maine field hockey team scored twice in the first half and beat Quinnipiac 4-1 on Sunday.
Bingle and Sydney Veljacic also scored for Maine. Savanna Reilly tallied for the Bobcats.
AMHERST 3, BATES 0: Madeline Tank scored twice, and Caroline Feeney once to lead the Jeffs (7-2, 4-2 NESCAC) past Bates (1-6, 0-6) in Amherst, Massachusetts.

AMHERST 2, BATES 1: Hannah Guzzi and Rachael Abernathy scored in the first half as the Jeffs (7-1, 4-1 NESCAC) beat the Bobcats (6-3, 3-3) in Amherst, Massachusetts. Dakota Donovan scored in the second half for the Bobcats.
MAINE 0, BINGHAMTON 0: Claudia Dube-Trempe stopped all four shots she faced to record her third shutout of the season as Maine (2-6-2, 0-0-1) tied Binghamton in Vestal, New York.
Gaby Gold and Katie Hatziyianis combined for the shut out for the Bearcats (4-6-1, 0-0-1).
Men’s soccer
AMHERST 1, BATES 0: Christopher Martin accepted Nico Pascual-Leone’s feed from the left side and fired home a 14-yard shot a minute into the second half, giving the Jeffs (5-0-2, 4-0-2 NESCAC) a triumph against Bates (1-7-1, 1-5) in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Men’s Tennis
BATES PAIR WINS DIV. III TENNIS REGIONAL: Bates’ Chris Ellis and Pierre Planche, the top-seeded team in men’s doubles, defeated second-seeded Michael Solimano and Aaron Revzin of Amherst 6-2, 7-6 (5) to claim the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Northeast regional championship. Ellis and Planche will compete for the national title at the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships, to be held Oct. 9-12 at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina.

KANSAS: Coach Charlie Weis was fired four games into his third season as coach, with the downtrodden program languishing again at the bottom of the Big 12.
AP top 25: Florida State stayed at No. 1 in The Associated Press poll after a second straight comeback victory, but support for the Seminoles is waning.
Florida State received 27 first-place votes, seven fewer than last week. No. 2 Oregon and No. 3 Alabama both had 13 first-place votes.
