The entertaining fall sports season has hit the midway pole and there are still a ton of questions to be answered.

While football turned its share of heads last week (see story), soccer, field hockey, golf, cross country and volleyball produced drama as well.

Here’s a look at what just happened, what’s to come and where local teams stand in the big scheme of things:

Football

Brunswick’s football team improved to 4-0 last weekend with a 34-21 win at Skowhegan. The Dragons are ranked first in the Eastern Class B Crabtree Points standings and hope to improve to 5-0 when they host Mt. Blue (2-2) Friday.

Mt. Ararat got its first victory last weekend, improving to 1-3 with a 34-22 home win over Gorham. The Eagles (ninth in Western B) play host to powerhouse York (4-0) Friday.

Morse evened its record at 2-2 with a 21-7 home win over Fryeburg. The Shipbuilders welcome 0-4 Gorham Friday.

Boys’ soccer

Mt. Ararat’s boys’ soccer team was third in the Eastern Class A Heal Points standings at press time with a 4-2-1 record after a 3-1 win at Cony and a 1-1 draw at Bangor last week. The Eagles hosted Oxford Hills Tuesday, welcome Skowhegan Friday, play at Lawrence Saturday and host Lewiston Tuesday of next week.

Brunswick improved to 4-2-1 and fourth in Eastern with wins last week over visiting Edward Little (2-1) and at home Skowhegan (4-0). After going to Cony Tuesday and hosting Lewiston Thursday, the Dragons visit Hampden Academy Saturday and welcome Oxford Hills Tuesday of next week.

In Western B, Morse was 1-5-1 and 12th after losses at home to Camden Hills (2-0) and Belfast (1-0). The Shipbuilders were at Medomak Valley Tuesday, hosted Lincoln Thursday and welcome Belfast Tuesday of next week.

Girls’ soccer

On the girls’ side, Morse was second to undefeated Greely in the Western B Heals at press time after winning at Camden Hills (2-1) and settling for a 2-2 home draw versus Erskine. Miracle Trimble and Brianna Williams scored versus the Windjammers. In the win over Erskine, Trimble and Lauren Pelletier had the goals. The Shipbuilders hosted Medomak Valley Tuesday and Lincoln Thursday and go to Belfast Tuesday of next week.

In Eastern A, Mt. Ararat was 3-3-1 and fourth after a 1-0 home win over Cony and a 2-1 home loss to Bangor. The Eagles went to Oxford Hills Tuesday, go to Skowhegan Friday, welcome Lawrence Saturday and visit Lewiston Tuesday of next week.

Brunswick was 3-3-1 and fifth after a 2-1 loss to Edward Little and a 9-0 home win over Skowhegan. The Dragons were home with Cony Tuesday and at Lewiston Thursday, welcome Hampden Academy Saturday and play at Oxford Hills Wednesday of next week.

Field hockey

With the end of the regular season drawing near, local field hockey teams have work to do to reach the playoffs.

Brunswick began the week 1-9 and 10th in Eastern A (only eight teams make the playoffs) after losses at Messalonskee (10-0), at home to Mt. Blue (7-0) and at Hampden Academy (6-0). The Dragons were home with Bangor Thursday, host Hampden Academy Tuesday and go to Edward Little Thursday of next week.

Mt. Ararat was 1-8 and 12th after losing at Edward Little (3-0), then getting in the win column with a 3-2 home victory over Lewiston. The Eagles were at Bangor Tuesday, hosted Oxford Hills Thursday, plays at Lewiston Tuesday of next week and hosts Mt. Blue Thursday of next week.

In Western B, Morse was 1-8 and 13th (only nine teams qualify) after following up its first victory (3-2 over visiting Waterville) with a 8-0 loss at Spruce Mountain. The Shipbuilders were home with Oceanside Monday, visited Nokomis Thursday, play host to Mt. View Monday and welcome Winslow Thursday of next week.

Cross country

Brunswick hosted Morse, Mt. Ararat and Mt. Blue last week in a cross country meet. The Dragons won the girls’ meet, with the Eagles third and the Shipbuilders fourth. Brunswick’s Tessa Cassidy was first individually (19 minutes, 48.67 seconds). Mt. Ararat was led by Katherine Leckbee (third, 21:02.44). Morse was paced by Maris Silvestri (ninth, 21:56.58). In the boys’ meet, the Dragons were second, Eagles third and the Shipbuilders fourth. Morse’s Christopher Walfield finished third individually (16:43.67). Brunswick was led by John Murphy (fourth, 17:57.92). Mt. Ararat’s top finisher was Matt Gott (sixth, 18:21.20).

Golf

On the links, Brunswick improved to 5-3 with a recent 6-3 win over Mt. Ararat, which fell to 3-2. Morse fell to 0-3 after a 8-1 loss to Lincoln Academy last week.
