LEWISTON — Quarterback Matt Cannone scored on a 1-yard run with 2:28 left in the game as Bates College beat Williams 19-12 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference football game Saturday.

Cannone went 12-of-19 passing for 161 yards for Bates (1-2). He threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Mark Riley late in the second quarter to tie the game at 12.

Riley had seven receptions for 143 yards.

The Bobcats took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter on a 7-yard scoring run by Tyler Jassen.

Williams (1-2) took the lead in the second quarter thanks to a pair of touchdown runs by Alex Scyocurka (2 yards and 6 yards).

Austin Lommen was 22-of-35 passing for 206 yards for Williams.

Wesleyan 28, Colby 7: The Cardinals took advantage of two costly turnovers and took a NESCAC victory in Waterville.

Wesleyan (3-0) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, thanks in part to a Colby fumble on the opening kickoff. The Cardinals took over at the Colby 20-yard line and Kyle Gibson scored on a 17-yard run two plays later. The Cardinals pushed it to 14-0 when quarterback Jesse Warren threw an 18-yard TD pass to Jon Day.

The Mules got back in it on a 7-yard scoring run by Jabari Hurdle-Price with 10:01 left in the first half. Hurdle-Price rushed 26 times for 101 yards.

Warren, who completed 13 of 21 passes for 157 yards, pushed Wesleyan’s lead to 21-7 when he hit Josh Hurwitz with a 4-yard TD pass in the third quarter. Wesleyan secured the win when Colby’s Nik Powers was intercepted by Jake Bussani, who returned it 22 yards for a touchdown.

BOWDOIN 33, TUFTS 20: Tyler Grant’s fourth touchdown of the day on a 42-yard run with 5:32 left in the fourth quarter helped the Polar Bears (1-2, 1-2) put the game out of reach as they closed out the game with 13 uanswered points to pull away from the Jumbos (2-1, 2-1) in a NESCAC game at Brunswick.

Grant finished with a career-high 208 yards rushing on a school-record 43 carries to go along with his four touchdowns. The 43 carries break the previous mark of 39 set by Rob Patchett in 2004 and the four rushing touchdowns was the most in a game since 1992.

Bowdoin quarterback Mac Caputi completed 20 of 25 passes for 209 yards and Andrew Sisti kicked a pair of field goals, including a 30-yard kick that broke a 20-20 tie with 6:37 left in the third quarter.

HUSSON 20, NORWICH 10: John Smith rushed for 126 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 17 carries to lead the Eagles (2-1, 1-0) as they held the Cadets (2-2, 0-1) to just 134 yards of total offense in a North Atlantic Conference opener in Bangor.

Logan Steward added 79 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries for the Eagles, who led 20-3 at halftime.

Husson’s defense had four sacks in the game, and Jordan Hersom, Anderson Smith and Ellis Throckmorton each had an interception.

ENDICOTT 45, MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY 28: Drew Frenette completed 27 of 38 passes for 408 yards and four touchdowns, including a 36-yard pass midway through the third quarter that gave the Gulls (3-2, 2-0) a 24-point lead as they downed the Mariners (1-3, 0-2) in a New England Football Conference game in Castine.

Jacob Doolan rushed for 219 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries for the Mariners, and also caught two passes for 102 yards, including an 86-yard touchdown that cut the deficit to 45-28 on the final play of the third quarter.

Maine Maritime quarterback Michael Fahey rushed for 142 yards, and also completed four passes for 141 yards and a touchdown.
