FREEPORT — Alison Duplisea scored her fourth goal of the year, and Sara Ring made 16 saves as Wells tied host Freeport 1-1 in a WMC girls soccer game on Tuesday.
Duplisea’s goal gave Wells (0-9-1) a 1-0 halftime lead, which stood until 10 minutes to play in regulation. That’s when Freeport (2-6-2) was awarded a penalty kick, which Becca Cameron converted to even the score.
Ring, a sophomore, stopped 16 of 17 shots in her first start of the season in goal.
The Warriors put 11 shots on net in earning their first points of the season.
Boys Soccer
MARSHWOOD 4, SANFORD 1
SANFORD — Hanssen Casey scored a pair of goals to lead visiting Marshwood past Sanford 4-1 in an SMAA boys soccer game at Cobb Stadium on Tuesday.
Zach Wilson and Riley Dinsmore also scored for the Hawks, who evened their record to 5-5.
Tylar Burgess scored the lone goal for the Spartans (2-8).
Marcus Gould and Mike Reitan combined to stop eight shots for Sanford, while Marshwood’s Same Leathe made 16 saves.
Volleyball
SCARBOROUGH 3, BIDDEFORD 2
SCARBOROUGH — Slow starts doomed Biddeford in a Class A volleyball match on Tuesday, as the Tigers fell to Scarborough, 3-2 (17-25, 25-22, 12-25, 30-28, 4-15).
Biddeford (6-5) had to rally to win the second set, and won a nail-biter fourth set to force the deciding fifth set.
But a 6-0 hole to start the fifth finally did in the Tigers, as the Red Storm (9-3) easily held on for the win.
Biddeford freshman Julia Murray was a bright spot in her first game at the libero position, as she didn’t commit an error while tallying 17 service points.
Jocelyn Moody notched a team-high 27 digs for the Tigers, while also tallying 10 kills, and Kendra Cote added 18 kills of her own.
Biddeford hosts Windham on Thursday on “Pink Night,” which is meant to raise awareness and support for breast cancer research.
FALMOUTH 3, THORNTON 0
SACO — Megan Tammaro dished out a match-high 22 assists as Falmouth swept host Thornton Academy 25-19, 25-9, 25-17 on Tuesday.
Ally Hickey added five kills and six blocks for Falmouth (9-2).
Ashley Howe and Kylee Austin combined for nine kills for Thornton (4-7), Julia Chasse notched nine assists and Kaylee Burns added 10 digs.
The Trojans were playing their annual “Pink Game,” as the players wore pink jerseys to raise awareness for breast cancer.
